WWIL-AM 1490 GOSPEL JOY adds Right Now with Ed Gordon.
From GospelJoy1490.net: As 1490`s “new audience” grew, it was evident that the morning preaching programs and evening urban programming had exploded in popularity. The need was recognized that the ministry was now challenged to serve the community in yet even greater measure. The prayers continued for the privilege to provide full-time urban gospel music and programming. Family Radio’s staff remembers the prayer struggle we experienced. The anguish was the waiting. In the fall of 2000 Ocean Broadcasting sold to Family Radio 1340 AM, our answer to many years of prayers. Interestingly, 1340 AM and 1490 AM are “sister stations”, and have identical wattages. Today, they share the same broadcast tower overlooking the city of Wilmington from just the other side of the Cape Fear River on Eagle Island. “God’s Country” made the move off of 1490 line up, to make way for the format we believe the station was “destined”, which opened the door for, Quality Urban Gospel programming, 24/7/365! Gospel Joy signed on the air full-time in November of 2000. Pastor James was there as station coordinator and worked as an on-air personality. Pastor Max’s worked as PSA coordinator and Sales Account Executive, assisting in keeping the precepts and sentiments of WWIL which is still “Winning Wilmington in Love!”
Gospel Joy is an ongoing bridge builder and blessing to the community. With its format serving up a well-balanced meal of music such as (quartet, traditional choir, and contemporary), topics that are informational and inspirational, graced with news, expository teaching, along with its stand out in excellent gospel-informative programming. Gospel Joy is a participant in the Gospel Announcers Guild, serve with SGN-The Light and the Rejoice Network. Gospel Joy plans and aspirations in the near future will be instrumental in promotions, showcases, national and international recording artists, and local talent, with a wide level of record companies. In March of 2011 CLI Radio, Inc. owned by Bishop James & Apostle Maxzine Utley acquired 1490, continuing its quest in reaching new heights.
